La mujer rural española vista a través de la mirada urbana: primeros investigadores extranjeros en trabajos de campo antes de la guerra civil española

Abstract

[ES] Los primeros investigadores extranjeros que vinieron a España a recopilar tradiciones populares, principalmente alemanes y norteamericanos, buscaban a la mujer rural de la España de los años 20 como fuente de la oralidad de nuestras costumbres populares, desde las canciones y danzas hasta la indumentaria. Gracias a las colecciones fotográficas conservadas en la Hispanic Society of America (EEUU) podemos ver cómo se desarrollaban los trabajos de campo de de estos estudiosos, cómo vieron a la mujer rural española, y cómo se dejaba ver y fotografiar dicha mujer. A través del análisis de estos materiales, se puede comprobar cómo la labor de otras instituciones en los años 40, como los Coros y Danzas de la Sección Femenina, no fueron ni los pioneros en la recopilación de lo popular, ni los guardianes de la tradición musical. Todo esto nos lleva a destacar la importancia de la imagen de la mujer en nuestro folklore, como principal universo a explorar, tanto como informante de dichos trabajos de campo, como transmisora y recopiladora a su vez de bailes, indumentaria y canciones infantiles.

[EN] The first foreign researchers who came to Spain to compile popular traditions, principally Germans and North Americans, were looking for the rural woman of the Spain of the 20s as source for the orality of our popular customs, from the songs and dances up to the clothes. Because of the photographic collections preserved in the Hispanic Society of America (USA) we can see how the researchers made their fieldworks, how the rural Spanish woman, and how she was watched and photographed. Though the analysis of these materials, it is possible to verify how the work of other institutions in the 40s, as the Choirs and Dances of the Feminine Section of Falange, they were neither the pioneers researching folksongs and popular customs, neither the guardians of the musical tradition. All this let us to point out the importance of the image of the woman in our Spanish folklore, as principal universe to explore: main informant for fieldworks, since transmitter and compiler for dances, clothing and children’s songs
