[EN] Only a few years ago the photography was understood as the 15spañ of optical and
mechanical elements alongside chemical procedures. However, at least since the
1970s, work has been done on digital media for obtaining photographs, a
technology that has reached its maturity in the early years of the 21st century. The
apparent collision between the technical-chemical procedure and the technical-
computing procedure can be strongly noticed in the social, in the artistic and in the
documentary. For some people the change is not only technical and is so radical
that people are beginning to talk about “postphotograpy”, entering into a new age
of the image. However, in this new age new elements haven’t ended with the others,
making symbiotic relations between them.
A collateral aspect of the digital revolution is the new consideration of
photochemical processes; they have not disappeared because of the digital image
has arrived, although that was predicted again and again, but they are almost
exclusively used by professionals and specialists in some areas, including
contemporary art. In this case we are going to point out not only the use of chemical
photography by some today’s artists, but the importance of the process itself for the
image construction.
In contemporary art, as in other areas, the impact of new technologies has been
remarkable However, artistic creation is a space in which minority and
experimental options have a place. In this case we deal with the presence of photo-
chemical processes in today ́s Spanish artists, in an exclusive way or combined with
digital processes.</subfield>
