[ES]María de Molina (1260 – 1321), sagaz, prudente y valerosa reina además de esposa, madre
y abuela ejemplar, constituyó una de las figuras más relevantes de la Corona de Castilla
entre finales del siglo XIII y primer cuarto del siglo XIV. Protagonista en la evolución
política del reino, ejerció poder e influencia como consorte de Sancho IV, y como regente
de su hijo, Fernando IV, y su nieto, Alfonso XI. Una mujer que preservó la unidad y la
paz en una de las épocas más conflictivas de la historia castellana, circunstancia que le
reportó prestigio, respeto y apoyo entre sus súbditos y los monarcas de la época.
A través de los estudios de reginalidad, nos acercamos a su figura para analizar el
ejercicio, ámbitos y formas de poder que detentó en el transcurso de su reinado. María de
Molina, caracterizada por su don de la concordia y capacidad de mediación, defendió la
Corona y legitimó la posición de sus descendientes, convirtiéndose en un modelo para
altas esferas femeninas. [EN] Maria de Molina (1260 – 1321), a shrewd, careful and courageous queen as well as
an exemplary wife, mother and grandmother, was one of the most important figures of
the Crown of Castile between the end of the thirteenth century and the first quarter of
the fourteenth century. Playing a key role in the political evolution of the kingdom,
she exercised power and influence as consort of Sancho IV, and as regent of her son,
Fernando IV, and her grandson, Alfonso XI. She was a woman who preserved unity and
peace in one of the most conflictive periods of Castilian history, a circumstance that
brought her prestige, respect and support among her subjects and monarchs of the time.
Through studies of queenship, we approach her figure to analyze the exercise, spheres
and forms of power that she held over the course of her reign. María de Molina,
characterized by her gift of concord and capacity for mediation, defended the Crown and
legitimized the position of her descendants, becoming a model for female influence at the
highest levels of society.
