The different outcome of the reaction of epoxy derivatives has been rationalized in terms of mechanistically biased processes. After homolytic oxirane cleavage, four main types of reaction were found: dehydroxylation, decarboxylation, dehydrogenation, and deoxygenation. The reaction products varied according to the substitution pattern.
