cuatro bloques: Consentimiento informado, Datos sociodemográficos y profesionales, Escala
[EN] In recent decades, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) have aroused the
interest of the scientific community as a process of school change and innovation that pursues
continuous improvement and the well-being of the community. PBIS is a three-tiered system
that promotes evidence-based practices and fosters inclusive learning environments. In
addition, since 1997, they have been supported by education policies established by the U.S.
Congress through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The
implementation of PBIS in schools is of utmost importance to a community that has a
significant number of people with disabilities. This doctoral thesis aims to evaluate the
impact of the years of implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports on
behavior problems in school, the perception of school climate and burnout in a group of
teachers from the educational context of Miami Dade in the 2021-2022 school year. To meet
this objective, a quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study was carried out,
based on the application of an online survey divided into four blocks: Informed Consent,
Sociodemographic and Professional Data, School Climate Scale (La Salle et al., 2018) and
the Maslach Burnout Inventory (Maslach et al., 1996). This survey was sent to the teachers of
three schools (approximately 285 teachers), reaching a sample of 226 teachers. A total of 696
office discipline referrals (ODRs) registered by teachers in the three schools were also
included, making up the final sample of 226 teachers and 696 disciplinary referrals. Most
participants were in the range of 45 years or older, for a mean (M) and standard deviation
(SD) of 42.0 ± 8.3 years. The results indicate that as the years of PBIS implementation
increase, behavioral problems decrease, teacher burnout decreases, and teachers' positive
perception of the school climate increases. The descriptive findings of the research show that
the majority of teachers work in schools where PBIS has been implemented for three years.
In addition, there is a predominance of professors who consider the presence of disciplinary
28
referrals as low. These are used as valid measures to detect and monitor behavioral problems.
Almost all teachers have a very positive perception of the school climate and a medium level
of burnout. Variable mediation analyses reveal that student behavioral problems and teacher
burnout influence the relationship between years of PBIS implementation and teachers'
perception of school climate. The conclusions suggest that the years of PBIS implementation
have a significant impact on the reduction of student behavior problems, the reduction of
teacher burnout, and favor the positive perception of the school climate among teachers.
Thus, the integration of a preventive and systemic perspective in the approach to burnout is
proposed, and the establishment of mental health and well-being of teachers as a strategic
priority in the implementation of PBIS. In general, this study has evaluated several variables
that are associated with the implementation of PBIS, which contributes to optimizing the
implementation process, maximizing benefits, and raising the quality of education in schools.
In this way, new research opportunities open up in underexplored contexts and in
communities where the majority of the population is of Hispanic and/or Latino origin.</mods:abstract>
