<dcterms:abstract>[EN]In this paper we study the modified gravity model f(R) = aR2 and compare it with
General Relativity in the context of neutron stars, considering different equations of state.
We discuss the junction conditions at the stellar surface for both theories, and obtain static
and spherically symmetric solutions for the interior and exterior of the stars, analysing the
curvature (non-zero in the exterior for the f(R) case, where the metric is also found to be
oscillating) and the proper definition of the mass in f(R), where a “gravitational sphere‘’
emerges that contributes to the mass perceived by a distant observer. Furthermore, the massradius
diagrams between the two theories are compared and the impact of the a parameter
on the results is assessed. Finally, the orbits of massive and non-massive particles around
stars are analysed, and the impact of these modifications on the periaster precession and the
light-trailing deflection is studied, concluding that the latter is not affected by a given the
proximity to the star and therefore the avoidance of the effects of the gravitational sphere,
thus motivating a possible observational test to check the validity of these theories.</dcterms:abstract>
