No

discover and access products, articles, services and content across the web. These
systems are fundamental in various platforms such and items, information about objects,
or demographic characteristics of users. However, with the exponential growth
of data in the era of big data, the availability of additional sources of information,
known as “side information,” that can be integrated to enhance traditional
models has increased. This information can include contextual data, social interactions,
behavioral logs or various metadata, enabling more personalized and robust
recommender systems to be built. Generally, this information is presented in numeric
or string format, although more complex and difficult to process formats,
such as textual and visual, are now being proposed and used. The objective of this
work is to perform a comparative study between classical recommender systems and
new proposals that use secondary information, such as the visual characteristics of
images, to determine whether this additional information significantly improves recommendations.
Through this work, we aim to provide a deeper understanding of
the benefits and limitations of using this type of secondary information in recommender
systems, providing a solid foundation for future research and development in
this field. As streaming services, online stores, social networks and search engines.
Traditionally, recommender systems have fallen into several categories, including
collaborative filtering, content-based filtering and knowledge-based methods. These
approaches have historically used various types of information, such as interactions
between users.</dim:field>
