The principal aim of this work is to check the credibility of the data in the Pahlavi literature about the transmission of the Avesta in the Prealexandrian time. The author is specially interested in the information about the transmission of the Avesta in the Sogdiana. Linguistic evidence supports this view, but the ultimate proof is the discovery of an Avestan a ern voh? in Sogdian transmission. The linguistic evidence shows that the transmission of the Avesta in the Sogdiana took place not in Oldavestan time, but probably later.
