Es fundamental comparar y entender sus acciones y pensamientos dentro de este marco, así como sus relaciones con otros representantes de la cristiandad que también tienen un papel a desempeñar en ese mundo cruzado europeo. Todo ello nos llevará, también, a estudiar las respuestas de los otros líderes de la cristiandad al fenómeno cruzado; tanto desde la perspectiva de los reinos peninsulares como la de los estados más allá de los Pirineos.
