No obstante, las amnesias que suele reflejar se deben más a traumatismos craneoencefálicos que a enfermedades degenerativas, dejando un poco al margen problemas sanitarios con gran incidencia en nuestra sociedad, la enfermedad de Alzheimer y otras demencias de origen degenerativo. El envejecimiento paulatino de la población desde mediados del siglo XX ha logrado que esta patología forme parte habitual de nuestras vidas, con trágicas consecuencias personales, socio-familiares y económicas. Este artículo trata de reflexionar sobre ello, aprovechando el estreno del último trabajo de Antonio Mercero, ¿Y tú quién eres? , que viene a llenar una vacante existente en el cine español sobre esta materia. Fuera de España dos directores se han involucrado a fondo con esta enfermedad, Juan José Campanella con El hijo de la novia y Richard Eyre con Iris. compararemos el trabajo de Mercero con estas dos cintas de 2001 y mantenemos la esperanza de que el cine de ancianos, vaya siendo abordado con más frecuencia pues la vejez forma parte del escenario actual en países desarrollados.; [EN] The cinema has always been seduced by the loss of memory and its consequences. However, the amnesia portrayed on the big screen is generally more related to head injuries than to degenerative diseases, and the health problems that are of such great importance in today s society, such as Alzheimer s disease and other dementias of degenerative origin, have tended to receive far less attention.The gradual ageing of the general population as from the middle of the last century has meant that this pathology has now become an almost normal part of our lives, with its all too tragic socio-economic and family consequences. Here, an attempt is made to reflect on this, taking advantage of the recent work by Antonio Mercero ¿Y tú quién eres? (And Who Are You?), which can be seen to fill a lagoon presentin the Spanish cinema as regards these issues. Outside Spain, two directors have become deeply involved with Alzheimer s disease: Juan José Campanella, with Son of the Bride/ El hijo de la Novia, and Richard Eyre, with Iris. Incluso entonces, los estudiantes pueden seguir los ejemplos inadecuados de algunos tutores lo que llega a condicionar un cuidado subóptimo de los pacientes hasta que toman conciencia de esta conducta. Las obras de literatura y las películas comerciales pueden contribuir a la comprensión de lo que los pacientes esperan de sus médicos y cómo atenderlos adecuadamente sin ser afectados excesivamente por lasenfermedades que han de tratar. En la presente revisión, se describen dos obras literarias y las películas que se inspiraron en ellas. Muestran cómo los médicos deberían tener en cuenta las necesidades emocionales de sus pacientes y, al mismo tiempo, evitar una implicación excesiva en sus responsabilidades médicas. Ambas pueden ser instrumentos educativos adecuados para presentar las sutilezas de práctica médica a los estudiantes durante su formación preclínica.; [EN] The good teaching of the patient-doctor relationship is a difficult task before medical students have clinical experience. Even then, students may follow the bad examples of some tutors and sub-optimal care will follow until they become aware of this behaviour. Literature and popular movies may help medical students to understand what patients expect from their doctors, and how to be careful without themselves suffering for every patient s disease. In the present review, two literary works and the films which were inspired by them are discussed. They show how doctors should avoid the neglecting of emotional needs of their patients, but also what the consequences are of an excessive implication in medical duties. Las frecuentes denuncias (como la de la película) no han cambiado la situación de penuria de los refugiados y desplazados internos, que sigue sin una solución definitiva a pesar de los esfuerzos de muchas partes, por lo que es fundamental actuar directamente sobre las causas, en lugar de intentar minimizar las terribles consecuencias generadas por los conflictos armados.; [EN] Beyond Borders (2003) reflects on the human side of people and the wish to help those most in need, special emphasis being placed on the medical profession. It also reflects the main outcomes of armed conflicts on the health of the populations affected by the strife and the difficulties encountered by those interested in helping out.
