Nuevos cimientos para devociones ancestrales: la arquitectura religiosa ante el siglo XXI

Abstract

[ES] El estudio de la historia del hombre va firmemente unido al de sus miedos, creencias, supersticiones, anhelos y deseos de futuro. Su condición mortal, subrayada desde su nacimiento, se hace presencia y confirma sus temores al enfrentarse a la muerte, ante cuya certeza las reacciones oscilan entre el escepticismo, la negación o la esperanza de una vida eterna. A ello hay que añadir la incertidumbre de la propia existencia, que somete al ser humano a constantes retos, alegrías, dificultades, satisfacciones y tragedias. Así pues, la necesidad de volcar parte de esta desazón y de confiar su devenir a un ente superior se convierte en constante de todas las civilizaciones, más allá de espacios o cronologías concretas. El avance del siglo XX y el arranque del tercer milenio confirman una progresiva tendencia a la desacralización y el descreimiento de las sociedades, confiadas al poder de lo tangible y cercano. Sin embargo, el peso que las religiones demuestran en el mundo sigue siendo incuantificable, guiando muchas de nuestras acciones y reacciones. Es por ello que los escenarios religiosos continúan ostentando una importancia vital para millones de personas, que los tienen por referentes físicos y espirituales. A los históricos se van añadiendo cada día nuevos ejemplos y es a ellos a los que se dedica este artículo, en la intención de presentar una panorámica arquitectónica multi-religiosa que subraye las diferencias pero que también incida en los puntos de conexión, tales como el uso sensible de la luz, el simbolismo de las formas, la pureza y claridad de los volúmenes como expresión de sencillez o la sobriedad de los resultados como manifestación de paz, armonía y reposo del alma.

[EN] The study of men history is firmly attached to their fears, beliefs, superstitions, hopes and wishes for the future. His mortal condition, highlighted since birth, is present and confirms their fears to face death, to which certain reactions ranging from skepticism, denial or hope of eternal life. Also, we have to add the uncertainty of existence, subjecting humans to constant challenges, joys, difficulties and tragedies. Thus the need to dump some of this uneasiness and have them become a superior being is constant to all civilizations, beyond space or specific timelines. The progress of the twentieth century and the beginning of the third millennium confirm a progressive trend to desecration and disbelief of the societies, assigned to the power of the tangible and close. However, the weight that religions show in the world remains unquantifiable, leading many of our actions and reactions. That is why religious scenarios continue to hold a vital importance for millions of people, for whom they are physical and spiritual references. Each day is adding new examples to the historical and to the new ones is dedicated this article in the intention to present a multi-religious architectural scene that highlights the differences but also impacts on the points of connection, such the sensitive use of light, the symbolism of forms, the purity and clarity of the volumes as an expression of simplicity or the sobriety of the results as a manifestation of peace, harmony and repose of the soul.
