Continuum vs. continua mathematica : Prolegómenos para una aproximación trascendental a la incompatibilidad entre la caracterización matemática del continuo y su concepción metafísica

Abstract

[ES] El problema de la tensión entre lo continuo y lo discreto tiene una gran presencia en la historia del conocimiento. Ya sea desde una perspectiva filosófica, lógica, física o matemática, todas las soluciones han sido problemáticas de tal manera, parece que, tristemente, nos veamos condenados a hablar de diferentes cosas según la perspectiva que se trate, sin encontrar una solución sintética abarcadora. En el trabajo se hace un recorrido de los diferentes tratamientos que la matemática ha dado para la armonización entre la aritmética y la geometría así de como las objeciones dadas, desde presupuestos metafísicos.

[EN] The problem of the tension between the continous and the discrete has a big presence in the history of knowledge, from a philosophic as well as locical, physical or mathematical viewpoint, all solutions have been troublesome., so it seems we are bound to speak about different things depending on which view is considered, without findinga synthetic and comprehensive solution. This work goes through the different treatments which from mathematics have been undertaken in order to achieve a harmony between arithmetics and geometry, as well as the objections given against them, most times from metaphysical positions
