dc.description.abstract[EN]Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic disease characterized by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21, resulting in a trisomy. The genetic origin was discovered in 1959 by Lejeune. Several defects in cortical lamination have been described during foetal development, that affect key brain regions involved in learning and memory processes.
