Niveles de sobrecarga, actividad física, ansiedad, depresión y calidad de vida en cuidadores informales de personas con demencia

Abstract

[ES]INTRODUCCIÓN: El envejecimiento poblacional incrementa las demencias y con ello la dependencia y discapacidad. Esto requiere cuidados constantes que son asumidos por los familiares provocando sobrecarga y afectación a nivel físico, emocional y social. OBJETIVO: Describir las características sociodemográficas de los CPI, niveles de sobrecarga, actividad física, ansiedad y depresión, junto con otras variables que influyen en su calidad de vida; así como estudiar la relación entre la sobrecarga y el resto de las variables de estudio. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Los participantes se reclutaron a través del proyecto “Cuidar al Cuidador” de la Universidad de Salamanca en el que colaboró el CREA. Se utilizó la “Escala de Zarit”, “IPAQ”, “HADS”, “MISS”, “Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia”, “EVA” y “SF-36”. El análisis estadístico se realizó son el software IBM SPSS 26. RESULTADOS: Participaron 30 CPI de personas con demencia. La sobrecarga tuvo una media de 38,36 ± 16,25, el 70% no presentaba sobrecarga. El nivel de actividad física fue moderado, 2771,80 MET/min/semana. El 30% presentó depresión posible y el 40% ansiedad probable. La calidad del sueño tuvo una media de 5,60 ± 5,10 y la cinesiofobia de 23,03 ± 5,28. La zona con más dolor fue espalda/tronco (36,7%) con una media de 3,86 ± 3,33. La calidad de vida se mantuvo en la función física 83,00 ± 18,27 y se vio afectada en vitalidad 51,33 ± 20,84, salud mental 57,60 ± 21,25 y salud general 60,83 ± 23,08. CONCLUSIÓN: Los CPI presentan sobrecarga, actividad física y percepción de problemas del sueño moderadas, depresión, ansiedad, cierta cinesiofobia, dolor en tronco/espalda y afectación de la vitalidad, salud mental y salud general mientras que el rol físico se encuentra preservado. Hay relaciones entre la carga del cuidador, ansiedad y depresión, dolor, el rol físico, la salud mental, la función social y la salud en general.

[EN]INTRODUCTION: Population aging increases the prevalence of dementia, leading to greater dependency and disability. This demands constant care, which is typically provided by family members, resulting in caregiver burden and physical, emotional, and social strain. OBJECTIVE: To describe the sociodemographic characteristics of informal caregivers, levels of caregiver burden, physical activity, anxiety and depression, along with other variables that influence their quality of life; and to examine the relationship between caregiver burden and the other study variables. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Participants were recruited through the "Caring for the Caregiver" project at the University of Salamanca, in collaboration with CREA. The following instruments were used: the “Zarit Burden Interview”, “IPAQ”, “HADS”, “MISS”, “Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia”, “VAS”, and “SF-36”. Statistical analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS 26 software. RESULTS: A total of 30 caregivers of people with dementia participated. The average burden score was 38.36 ± 16.25, with 70% not experiencing significant burden. The level of physical activity was moderate, with a mean of 2771.80 MET/min/week. Possible depression was observed in 30% of participants and probable anxiety in 40%. Sleep quality had an average score of 5.60 ± 5.10, and kinesiophobia averaged 23.03 ± 5.28. The most common area of pain was the back/trunk (36.7%) with an average intensity of 3.86 ± 3.33. Quality of life was preserved in physical functioning (83.00 ± 18.27), but vitality (51.33 ± 20.84), mental health (57.60 ± 21.25), and general health (60.83 ± 23.08) were negatively affected. CONCLUSION: Informal caregivers exhibit moderate levels of caregiver burden, physical activity, and perceived sleep problems, along with depression, anxiety, some degree of kinesiophobia, trunk/back pain, and impairments in vitality, mental health, and general health, while physical role remains preserved. Relationships were found between caregiver burden and anxiety, depression, pain, physical role, mental health, social functioning, and general health.
