El romance como concepto crítico-literario

Abstract

[ES]Este artículo intenta naturalizar, si no el término, al menos el concepto de romance, haciendo útil y operativo a través del análisis y clarificación del mismo. Para ello, en primer lugar, lo define utilizando las definiciones del mismo más interesantes, fundamentalmente la de Northrop Frye. En segundo lugar, ilustra esta definición examinando tres de las más importantes variedades de romance. Y, en tercer lugar, realiza algunas distinciones tanto dentro del propio concepto – entre el modo romance y el género romance – como fuera del mismo- entre romance y realismo

[EN]This paper attempts to naturalize, if not the term, at lest the concept of romance, by making it useful and operative in the Hispanic context through its analysis and clarification. To do so, in the first place, it defines the concepts by using the most interesting definition of it, basically the one offered by Northrop Frye. In the second place, it illustrates this definition by examining three of the most important romance varieties. And, in the third place, it draws some distinctions within the concept itself- between the romance mode and romance genre- as well as without it – between romance and realism.
