Resumen
Desde Menéndez Pelayo vienen siendo un lugar común juzgar las paráfrasis en verso de los salmos de fray Luis de León, de acuerdo con su mayor o menor cercanía a la versión latina de San Jerónimo o a la versión hebrea.
Este trabajo trata de mostrar cómo este enfoque supone una simplificación del proceso complejo que está detrás de una traducción bíblica en verso en el Renacimiento. En ellas se ponen en juego cuestiones que afectan a todo el entramado de la filología bíblica renacentista, de forma que es necesario “saberlo todo” para enfrentarse a ellas.
Se repasan aquí algunos procedimientos para acercarse a estos poemas con herramientas que un teólogo y poeta como fray Luis de León pudo manejar, y proponer una nueva lectura de esos poemas bíblicos a la luz de las fuentes latinas.
