[ES]El fenómeno del préstamo digital en bibliotecas está lejos de consolidarse. Sobre todo desde que OverDrive, la plataforma de mayor aceptación en Estados Unidos, presente en más de 22.000 bibliotecas públicas y escolares, publicara los datos de préstamos de libros electrónicos, que en 2011 habían cuadriplicado los del año anterior, y que durante 2012 volvieron a hacerlo, alcanzando 72 millones de préstamos digitales. Estos datos pusieron en guardia a las 5 grandes (Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, Hachette, Harper Collins y Penguin Group) que iniciaron políticas restrictivas respecto a la disponibilidad de libros electrónicos en bibliotecas. Penguin Group puso fin a su contrato de OverDrive el 9 de febrero de 2012, decidiendo que no ofrecería sus nuevos libros para el préstamo en bibliotecas; Random House elevó sus precios el 1 de marzo de 2012, en algunos casos hasta triplicar el coste de un libro electrónico destinado al préstamo en bibliotecas; el argumento utilizado era que a partir de ese momento se equiparían con el precio de los audiolibros. Harper Collins por su parte, intenta imponer licencias restrictivas que caduquen cada 26 usos, una cifra por cierto no era aleatoria puesto que es la cifra media estimada por la Asociación de Editores Americanos para el préstamo de un libro físico.
