[EN] Anaphylaxis is clinically difficult to define because there is heterogeneity in terminology , criteria and definitions, as highlighted by the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) , Network Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis (FAAN) and the World Allergy Organization (WAO ). Overall, anaphylaxis is usually defined as a reaction to serious, severe and life threatening systemic hypersensitivity or severe allergic reaction of rapid onset and may cause death. Often represents the body's response to a particular etiologic agent , but in some cases , not merely evidence of existence of a specific trigger .
The prevalence of allergic diseases is increasing in recent decades , as the frequency of allergic reactions, with the consequent increase in the incidence rate of anaphylaxis in industrialized countries.
Despite being a life -threatening condition , although there are significant deficiencies in the epidemiology , etiology , diagnosis and treatment of anaphylaxis. The epidemiology of anaphylaxis , including prevalence rates , is scarce and has performed retrospectively , like its etiology by geographic area and treatment.
Anaphylaxis is not always recognized as such because it can mimic other conditions and be variable in its presentation , so prompt recognition is important for a proper treatment. This is especially important for physicians working in the emergency services , and they should know that adrenaline is the drug of choice in the treatment of anaphylaxis and that any patient who has consulted anaphylactic episode should prescribírsele discharge the adrenaline syringe.
Due to the lack of information on all aspects mentioned above , it is important to conduct a prospective study to help us clarify all these doubts in our Tertiary Hospital and in our region .
