Resumen
[ES]Durante el desarrollo del sistema nervioso las neuronas deben enviar proyecciones que les permitan establecer los contactos adecuados con las células diana. Este proceso se puede entender como una sucesión secuencial de siete etapas que dependen de diferentes señales químicas para iniciarse, terminar y repetirse: neurogénesis y gliogénesis; migración de las células; diferenciación; maduración (crecimiento de dendritas y axones); sinaptogénesis (formación de sinapsis); muerte celular (proceso de ¿poda¿ sináptica); y formación de la mielina (revisado en Kolb et al., 2011). Las neurotrofinas participan en el control de numerosos aspectos esenciales en el desarrollo del sistema nervioso, como son: la regulación de la supervivencia y la diferenciación neuronal, la formación de sinapsis y la plasticidad sináptica. Uno de los procesos donde el papel regulador de las neurotrofinas está muy bien caracterizado es el proceso de diferenciación neuronal, en el que controlan la elongación de las neuritas, el grado de ramificación de éstas así como la cantidad de espinas dendríticas (revisado en Bibel and Barde, 2000; Arévalo and Wu, 2006; Chao, 2003). Además, las neurotrofinas también son imprescindibles para el correcto funcionamiento del sistema nervioso adulto ya que participan en el control de la secreción y la actividad sináptica, siendo capaces de regular su propia secreción (Canossa et al., 1997; Krüttgen et al., 1998; Canossa et al., 2001; Amino et al., 2002; Mori et al., 2008).
