Resumen
Objetivo: Identificar y evaluar las principales evidencias disponibles actualmente en fisioterapia para el tratamiento de la dismenorrea y ver cuáles tienen mayor eficacia.
Material y métodos: Quince artículos fueron seleccionados para la revisión tras realizar una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases Pubmed, Scopus y PEDro. Fueron incluidos ensayos clínicos aleatorizados, publicados en inglés y español en los últimos cinco años.
Resultados: En los quince artículos seleccionados para su análisis en profundidad, encontramos diferentes tipos de intervención: programa de ejercicios, terapia manual, punción seca, electroterapia y kinesiotape. Las variables de estudio que se incluyeron fueron la intensidad del dolor, la ingesta de medicamentos para aliviar el dolor, la duración del dolor, los síntomas menstruales y la calidad de vida. Las pacientes involucradas eran mujeres diagnosticadas de dismenorrea primaria, con dolor moderado o severo, con edades comprendidas entre los 15 y los 43 años. En todos los artículos analizados, la duración de la intervención fue relativamente corta, de dos ciclos menstruales de media.
Conclusiones: Se ha encontrado evidencia moderada sobre la efectividad de los programas de ejercicios, a partir del segundo ciclo menstrual, y de la terapia manual. Por otro lado, se precisa mayor cantidad de estudios y de mayor tamaño muestral para determinar la efectividad del resto de técnicas. Ninguna técnica ha conseguido aliviar completamente el dolor.
