Cuidados en la mucositis oral del paciente oncológico

Resumen
La mucositis oral es uno de los efectos secundarios más frecuentes de la radioterapia y/o quimioterapia que se aplica como tratamiento de diferentes tipos de cáncer.
Esta mucositis oral afecta en gran medida la calidad de vida de los pacientes oncológicos. Por este motivo resulta fundamental la prevención y el tratamiento de la enfermedad, así como el manejo adecuado de los síntomas de la misma.
El objetivo de este trabajo es realizar una Revisión Bibliográfica para hallar las terapias más efectivas en la prevención y el tratamiento de la mucositis oral, además de conocer las medidas más eficaces para paliar los síntomas secundarios a ella, sobre todo el dolor.
La búsqueda de artículos la hemos llevado a cabo en diferentes bases de datos, como son PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Académico, ScienceDirect y SciELO, y haciendo uso de distintas revistas científicas. Ante ello, hemos recabado un total de 15 estudios en los que nos hemos basado para realizar una discusión crítica.
Después de realizar el análisis de los resultados, se ha observado que mantener una correcta higiene oral, los enjuagues con agua o solución salina al 0,9%, los enjuagues con bicarbonato, la crioterapia oral y el factor de crecimiento de queratinocitos, resultan efectivos para la prevención de la mucositis oral. Asimismo, tanto para la prevención como para el tratamiento de dicha enfermedad, se han obtenido efectos beneficiosos con la terapia con láser de baja potencia y con la bencidamina. Además, se recomienda la administración de opioides, como la morfina, con el propósito de aliviar el dolor que causa la mucositis.
