It has been observed that the catalytic activity of solids composed by metals or metallic supported oxides principally depends on the surface acid-base and red-ox properties, as well as on the nature of the surface oxygen species, being all of them, in turn, dependent on the content of the transition metal (active phase) present in the solid and of its dispersion. On the other hand, the physicochemical properties as well as the catalytic activity of a solid can be modified by means of the choice of the preparation s method. One of the aims of this work was the synthesis by the sol-gel method (not used up today) of MoOx/?-Al2O3 and MoOx/TiO2 catalysts, with different Mo content and the comparison of their physicochemical and catalytic properties with those of other similar catalysts but obtained by means of impregnation of supports (?-Al2O3 and TiO2, prepared by sol-gel) with ammonium heptamolybdate.Another objective of this work was to obtain a more detailed knowledge of the bismuth molybdate structure, dispersed or crystallized on TiO2, when it was used as a catalyst for the selective oxidation (SO) of propene to acrolein. Bi-Mo-Ti-O solids were synthethized with different Bi-Mo-O loadings by the sol gel method, calcined during different times periods and tested in the SO of propene to acrolein. The selectivity and catalytic activity of these solids were compared with those of other ones obtained by impregnation or coprecipitation methods and with similar Bi-Mo-O loadings. In the last part of this work, the catalytic behaviour of Pd supported or included in ? Al2O3 or TiO2 (effect of the preparation s method) and the reduction pretreatment of these solids were analyzed in the catalytic combustion of methane (CCM). In addition, the catalytic properties in the CCM of Pd supported on ?-Al2O3 or TiO2 oxides modified by Zr grafting and the effect of the addition of CO2 in the feed were also analyzed.
