Tragedia y reflexión. Algunas observaciones sobre Antígona

Abstract

[ES] En la antigua Grecia la tragedia constituía no sólo una fuente de entretenimiento sino también, y sobre todo, un poderoso instrumento de reflexión práctica. De ese modo, aquí se propone una relectura de la tragedia de Antígona y un análisis del acto de desobediencia que ocupa el núcleo de la obra, para mostrar por qué medios el poeta induce a su público a una revisión profunda de sus creencias sobre lo el valor y sobre lo que significa actuar mal. La herramienta hermenéutica principal para valorar el alcance de esa reflexión en el seno de la sociedad ateniense será el examen de las reacciones que cabía esperar en el público que asistía a la representación.

[EN] Greek tragedy was not only a source of entertainment but also, and most importantly, a powerful resource of moral and political thinking. From this perspective, my aim here is to propose a reading of the tragedy of Antigone centered in an analysis of the disobedience act that occupies the core part of the play. This account would try to make sense of the ways in which the Greek poet encouraged his audience to look through their conventions and beliefs, in willing to make them review their sense of what matters and what a bad action is. The main hermeneutical tool in order to do this will consist in exploring the reactions that those who assisted to the performance supposedly experienced.
