Resumen
Sobre la existencia en nuestra península de un culto al toro, cuyos orígenes se remontan a los tiempos protohistóricos, se ha escrito bastante, aunque lias más de las veces de un modo superficial y como de cosa comúnmente admitida. Estudios como los de Caro Baraja (1944), Alvarez de Miranda (1962) y Blanco Freijeiro (1962), que han tratado del toro como elemento religioso —aunque referidos a etapas y a hechos distintos— nos han evidenciado la necesidad de ordenar algunos de los materiales protohistóricos relacionados con dicho animal con el fin de llevar a cabo un análisis de los mismos y establecer, en consecuencia, una información básica que sirva de antecedente a toda investigación acerca del culto del que se ha hablado mucho, pero que hasta el momento carece de cimientos en que asentarse.
