Una nueva propuesta sobre los límites del “ager emeritensis” durante el Imperio Romano y la Antigüedad Tardía

Abstract

La fijación de las fronteras del ager emeritensis es uno de los principales temas de debate de la investigación centrada en el estudio del mundo rural de la capital lusitana. En este trabajo proponemos una definición de este espacio fundamentada en el análisis de la historiografía y en una nueva interpretación de la documentación textual y material disponible. La inevitable relación entre la creación de la provincia Lusitania y la fundación de Augusta Emerita, junto a la determinación de sus límites durante el período romano, son fundamentales, debido a que, probablemente, sean las fronteras fijadas en este tiempo las vigentes durante la Antigüedad Tardía.

The fixing of the boundaries of the ager emeritensis is one of the main topics of discussion for research focused on the study of rural areas of the capital of Lusitania. We propose a definition of this space based on the analysis of historiography and a new interpretation of the textual documentation and material available. The inevitable connection between the creation of the province Lusitania and the founding of Augusta Emerita, along with the determination of their limits during the Roman period are essential, because, probably, are those set in this time the force during the Late Antiquity.
