Alice Pestana, educadora portuguesa republicana en la Institución Libre de Enseñanza

Abstract

Alice Pestana es una de las mejores representaciones de la mujer culta, defensora del espíritu laico y republicano que podemos encontrar en la ILE, en la tradición educativa portuguesa y española de fines del XIX y primer tercio del siglo XX. En el artículo se demuestra su comprometida actuación como educadora, profesora de lenguas extranjeras, traductora de temas pedagógicos, escritora de literatura y libros infantiles, y comprometida con la educación correccional de los menores con inadaptación social. Es un destacado puente cultural y pedagógico entre España y Portugal, desde categorías republicanas.

Alice Pestana is one of the best representations of the educated woman, defending a secular, republican to be found in the ILE, the Portuguese and Spanish educational tradition of the late nineteenth and first third of the twentieth century. The article demonstrates its committed performance as an educator, a teacher of foreign languages, translator of educational issues, and a writer of children’s books, and committed to correctional education of children with social maladjust- ment. She is an outstanding cultural and educational bridge between Spain and Por- tugal, from Republican categories.
