[EN]Artistic and creative activity is the product of the capacity that each individual develops as to imagine, feel, look for and invent. In the early stages of development in which critical moments of learning take place, artistic activities should be encouraged in children. Fostering imagination triggers the building of abilities, capacities and skills for the children to develop their abstract and symbolic thought. The object of study in this paper focuses on the teaching practice of Plastic Arts in Primary Education at the present time. The main goal was not only to investigate about the state-of-the-art in the teaching-learning process by means of a qualitative study of Plastic Arts Education but also to acquire knowledge on the full extent of the teaching act along with (1) resources at educational centers (human and material), (2) strategies-skills compared to current social and educational demands (claims of bilingual teaching) that have placed this area of knowledge in an uncertain position. The working method was nurtured from epistemology (by considering historical and social factors and substantiating evidence) and field work. In an attempt to describe, understand and interpret the facts, the working methodology was Action Research through the collaboration of public schools and especially teachers, those specialists in the English Language and those responsible for the teaching of Plastic Arts Education area (according to the needs of the institution by didactic reasons). Results reassure the current controversy in the teaching and learning in this area of knowledge to the detriment of the full development of intelligence. One of the most important challenges of the 21st century is the growing need for creativity and imagination in knowledge societies, which is Plastic Arts Education can meet and recognize as their own identity. It should be essential to form working groups of experts who are responsible for studying, investigating and finding out what adjustments are necessary to meet current demands and share them with educational institutions.
