Grandeza y miseria de los liberales españoles ante la educación secundaria (1834-1857)

Abstract

Paradoxycally, the liberal Spanish gobernments of the middle of the xix century didn't pay the proper attention to public education, and especially to the secondary one. This being the conclusion one comes to in this article after analysing several writings of the main performers of the liberal educational policy of that time, as well as in the most significant legislative documents. From Gil y Zarate to Posada Herrera, and through the Sessions of Parlament and Legislative Collections, it can be proved how a falseness is produced in the structure of the secondary education, just as it was conceived by the first liberal government and established by the Duke of Rivas in 1836, in this way, sacrifing the very elementary education.

Paradójicamente, los gobiernos liberales españoles de mitad del siglo xix no se ocuparon debidamente de la instrucción pública, y en especial de la segunda enseñanza. Esta es la conclusión a la que se llega en este artículo, después de analizar diversos escritos de los principales intérpretes de la política educativa liberal de ese tiempo, así como de los documentos legislativos más significativos. Desde Gil y Zarate a Posada Herrera, y a través de las Sesiones de Cortes y Colecciones Legislativas, se comprueba cómo se produce un falseamiento en la estructuración de la segunda enseñanza tal como fue concebida por los primeros gobiernos liberales y establecida por el Duque de Rivas en 1836, sacrificando de esta manera la propia enseñanza primaria.
