Un siglo de Universidades Populares en España (1903-2000)

Abstract

The historiography on popular education in the XXth century Spain has been mainly centered on the analysis of the experiences in some relevant and significant Popular Universities (Valencia, Madrid, Segovia, Cartagena, etc.). Nevertheless, there are scarce studies trying to present an overview of the different stages of this movement. The existing historiographical gaps oblige to continue the studies on the the evolution of the most important Popular Universities as well on each of the periods observed. Taking into account the limits imposed by these lacks, this work intends to offer a general picture as regards the origins and evolution of these experiences of popular education in XXth century Spain.

La historiografía de la educación popular en la España del siglo XX se ha centrado primordialmente en el análisis de las experiencias de Universidades Populares especialmente singulares y relevantes (Valencia, Madrid, Segovia, Cartagena, etc.). Sin embargo, son escasos los estudios que intentan presentar una visión global de las diferentes etapas de este movimiento. Las lagunas historiográficas existentes hacen indispensable seguir profundizando tanto en la trayectoria de las Universidades Populares más representativas como en cada uno de los períodos identificables. Con las limitaciones impuestas por tales carencias, este trabajo pretende efectuar una aproximación global a la génesis y evolución de tales experiencias de educación popular en España a lo largo del siglo XX.
