Entendiendo el amor. Explicaciones sociológicas de la sobrevaloración del Amor Romántico

Abstract

[ES] Los humanos nos hemos relacionado y amado siempre, reflejándolo de diferentes formas como son la música, la literatura y la pintura. El amor, como se sabe, puede ser una fuente de bienestar emocional, sexual e identitario. Sin embargo, la idea que se entiende hoy en día por “Amor romántico” es un popurrí de expectativas, ideales o formas de entender y concebir el amor de pareja. Corresponde más a un ideal colectivo y utopía –ilustradas en gran medida por los mitos del amor romántico– que al realismo, cotidianidad y experiencia personal de una pareja. Es una estructura social construida que ampara esa idea de amor como centro de la vida, con las expectativas, los conflictos y la ansiedad que caracteriza este hecho. Estos elementos actuales de las sociedades occidentales son un reflejo de los conceptos que se desarrollaron con influencia del Romanticismo y del Cristianismo. El principal objetivo de este trabajo, por tanto, es revisar la literatura existente en sociología del amor y a partir de ahí destapar las trampas que dicho Amor Romántico tiene para la sociedad, en especial para las mujeres y para los jóvenes. Primero abordaremos la relación entre matrimonio y amor, posteriormente hablaremos sobre el problema de la individualización y secularización general en Occidente, para luego exponer brevemente el papel de los medios de comunicación de masas. Con esta revisión bibliográfica y cualitativa me gustaría acabar el trabajo proponiendo algunas líneas de actuación para evitar los peligros de dicha sobrevaloración del amor.

[EN] Humans have always been related and loved each other, reflecting it in different ways such as music, literature and painting. As it is known, love can be a source of emotional, sexual and identity well-being. However, the idea that is understood today by "Romantic Love" is a medley of expectations, ideals or ways of understanding and conceiving love that in many cases could be dangerous. Illustrated by the myths of romantic love, this ideal corresponds more to a utopia than to the realism, daily life and personal experience of a couple. It is a constructed social structure that protects that idea of love as the center of life, with expectations, conflicts and anxiety. These current elements of Western societies are a reflection of the concepts that have been developed under the influence of Romanticism and Christianity. The main objective of this work, therefore, is to review the existing literature in sociology of love and from there uncover the traps that this Romantic Love has for society, especially for women and for youth. First we will deal with the relationship between marriage and love, later we will talk about the problem of individualization and secularization in Western countries, and then briefly expose the role of the mass media. With this bibliographical and qualitative review I would like to finish the work with some intervention proposals.
