Maras en Centroamérica, pandillas juveniles en España: una comparativa de dos realidades distintas

Abstract

[ES] El fenómeno de las maras centroamericanas ha supuesto un problema de seguridad nacional en América Central que, incluso, ha llegado a extenderse a nivel internacional hasta apreciarse, también, en el territorio español en forma de pandillas juveniles. A pesar de esto, el estudio de cada una de las condiciones que permiten la formación de estos fenómenos ha demostrado que son dos mundos diferentes. Pero, es cierto que se nutren del mismo trasfondo como es la falta de identidad o pertenencia frente al entorno social establecido. Así, puede diferenciarse que las maras se caracterizan por ser un grupo con una determinada organización que se ha conformado en un contexto violento que termina por definirles, implicando que sus actividades se expandan internacionalmente. A diferencia de estas, las pandillas desarrolladas en España tienen una vin-culación más local, en la que se comparte una misma identidad que les caracteriza como grupo y no siempre tienen una implicación delictiva. De esta forma, las intervenciones que se lleven a cabo deben enfocarse en las diferencias de cada uno de los contextos y causas del surgimiento de estos grupos. Limitando la expansión del aparato punitivo y ampliando las intervenciones sociales.

[EN] The phenomenon of the Central American gangs has caused a national security problem in Cen-tral America that has been extended internationally. This phenomenon is appreciated, also, in Spain as youth gangs. Despite this, the study of conditions that allow the formation of these phenomena has demonstrated that they are different events. But, it is true that they have the same background as the lack of identity or integration in the social environment. Thus, gangs are characterized by being organized groups that have been formed in a violent context that defines them, implying that their activities are being expanded internationally. As for youth gangs created in Spain, they have a regional character and they share the same identity that characterizes them as a group and they do not always have a criminal involvement. Thus, inter-ventions have to focus on the differences of each context and causes of the emergence of these groups. This means by limiting punitiveness and expanding social interventions.
