dc.description.abstract[EN] The purpose of this paper is to comprehensively analyze the growing nationalist sentiment of China and Japan respectively in the context of their bi-lateral relations and the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands dispute. Considering currently relevant Japanese neo-nationalism and Chinese popular nationalism, the author studies its development since the 20th century to date and seeks to understand how this affects their foreign policy through the lenses of nationalism. To this end, this paper outlines the concept of nationalism, provides a historical background of nationalism in China and Japan, presents an overview of Sino-Japanese relations and applies the gathered empirical data on nationalism to a case study on the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands dispute. Lastly, this paper connects the growing nationalist sentiment to the foreign policy planning in the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands dispute and tries to understand the role of said correlation in their bilateral relations.en_EN
