El pretérito anterior. Evolución y decadencia

Abstract

Con el objetivo de esclarecer las circunstancias y las causas de la desaparición del pretérito anterior, se hace un repaso histórico de los distintos contextos de esta forma verbal y se pone de manifiesto que las distintas gramáticas le atribuían una neutralización con el pretérito perfecto simple y/o con el pretérito pluscuamperfecto, lo cual propicia el desplazamiento del pretérito anterior en favor de estos tiempos verbales. El trabajo también revela que la inmediatez -uno de los rasgos característicos y diferenciales del pretérito anterior- se formó a partir de los rasgos gramaticales de perfectividad del tiempo verbal más la puntualidad de las partículas temporales.

In order to clarify the circumstances and causes of the disappearance of the past tense, a historical review of the different contexts of this verbal form is made and it is shown that the different grammars attributed a neutralization to it with the past perfect simple and/or or with the pluperfect preterite, which favors the displacement of the previous preterite in favor of these tenses. The work also reveals that immediacy -one of the characteristic and differential features of the past tense- was formed from the grammatical features of perfectivity of the verbal tense plus the punctuality of temporal particles.
