El sobreuso de la pasiva perifrástica en el español del siglo XXI

Abstract

El principal objetivo de nuestra investigación reside en analizar el sobreuso de la pasiva perifrástica en español. Varios estudios gramaticales han denunciado un creciente empleo de esta construcción, sobre todo en el lenguaje escrito, como resultado del influjo de la lengua inglesa. En nuestro trabajo hemos argumentado que el anglicismo sintáctico se estaría produciendo en caso de existir un aumento en la frecuencia de uso de estas oraciones, y no tanto en su mera utilización, pues nos encontramos ante una estructura tan natural de la lengua española como las construcciones activas. Al respecto, se ha empleado una metodología cuantitativa gracias a los datos que nos ofrece el CORPES XXI para obtener una visión sincrónica del uso de la pasiva perifrástica durante las dos primeras décadas del presente siglo. Los resultados obtenidos nos permiten afirmar que no hay tal aumento en la frecuencia de uso de dichas construcciones. Igualmente, hemos obtenido, entre otros resultados, que son oraciones más frecuentes en el medio escrito que en el oral, que son menos empleadas en los países hispanohablantes no pertenecientes al continente americano y que la literatura es el ámbito menos permeable para este tipo de estructuras, las cuales imperan en el campo informativo, tecnológico y científico.

The ultimate aim of this research is to analyse the overuse of the passive voice in Spanish. Several grammatical studies have reported an ever-increasing use of this structure, especially in written texts, as a result of the considerable influence which English exerts on Spanish. In this dissertation we have argued that the syntactic anglicism would be more recurrent if there was an increase in the frequency of use of these sentences, and less because of its usage, since we are examining a structure which is as common in Spanish as the active voice. For the purpose of our case study, we have employed a quantitative method, thanks to the data provided by CORPES XXI, to obtain a synchronous view of the usage of the passive voice during the first two decades of the 21st century. The research findings deny such increase in the frequency of use of these structures. We have equally emphasised, among other interpretations of the results, that these sentences appear more frequently in written texts than in spoken language, that Spanish native speakers who weren’t raised in the Americas use it less often, and that literature is the field less open to these structures, which instead prevail in newspapers, and in scientific and technological texts.
