Higienismo y educación en España entre los siglos XIX-XX. Enrique Salcedo, aportaciones de higiene infantil y escolar

Abstract

During the final third of the xix century and the first of the xx, there was a boom in the hygiene movement and a large part of it was aimed at child hygiene and education. Since that movement there has been noticeable support for initiatives and measures directed towards the improvement of conditions in school life and in children's education, above all for those suffering from worse conditions. The Holiday camps, the new policies to improve school building conditions, the incorporation of school hygiene programs, the introduction of physical activity and outdoor activities are some of the improvements achieved thanks to this movement.Of all the hygienists who were champions of these new ideas regarding hygiene and education, we would like to highlight, together with his work, the figure of doctor Salcedo y Ginestal. In addition to his informative work we must add his important participation in the promotion of school hygiene in the wake of institutionalism.

Durante el último tercio del siglo xix y primero del xx nos encontramos con el auge del movimiento higienista y una parte importante de él vinculado al higienismo infantil y educativo. Desde dicho movimiento se aprecia el apoyo hacia las iniciativas y medidas que van dirigidas a la mejora de las condiciones de la vida escolar y educativa de los niños y las niñas, ante todo de la de aquellos que padecen unas peores condiciones. Las colonias de vacaciones, la nueva política de mejora de las condiciones de los edificios escolares, la incorporación de programas de higiene escolar, la 1. Introducción de la actividad física y de las actividades en la naturaleza son algunas de las mejoras logradas gracias a este movimiento.De todos los higienistas que fueron adalides de las nuevas ideas en higiene y educación, queremos resaltar hoy la figura y obra del doctor Salcedo y Ginestal, quien, además de su labor divulgativa, suma su importante participación en el fomento de la higiene escolar desde la estela institucionista.
