Participación y Medio Ambiente en Clave Europea: La relación entre la sociedad civil y la política verde de la Unión Europea

Abstract

[ES] La participación ciudadana y el medio ambiente han registrado recientemente revolucionarios avances en Europa. La Unión Europea recorre el camino hacia una democracia participativa, para la cual ha iniciado el proceso de reconceptualizar su gobernanza y funcionamiento. La sociedad civil está cada vez más presente y de más formas en el proceso de toma de decisiones de la Unión, y se requerirá de su apoyo y aportes para hacer frente a las nuevas amenazas globales como lo es el cambio climático. El contemporáneo auge de estas preocupaciones suscita preguntas sobre la relación que pueden compartir, así como las implicaciones de la sociedad civil como actor internacional en la protección del medio ambiente. Con la renovada capacidad de los ciudadanos europeos para dar forma a las políticas, es importante analizar sus actitudes hacia el medio ambiente y su contribución a la agenda verde de la UE. [EN] The environment and citizen participation have recently seen revolutionary developments in Europe. The European Union is moving towards a participatory democracy, for which it has begun reconceptualising its governance and functioning. Civil society is increasingly present in more ways and forms in the Union’s decision-making process, and its support and input will be needed to address new global threats such as climate change. The contemporary rise of these concerns raises questions about the relationship they may share and the implications of civil society as an international actor in environmental protection. With the renewed capacity of European citizens to shape policy, it is important to analyse their attitudes towards the environment and their contribution to the EU’s green agenda.
