| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | [EN]Sarcomas are an infrequent kind of cancer that arise from connective tissue in the body. They are characterized by their rarity and a notable degree of variety both in histologic origin and in anatomic place of origin. Currently, there is a lack of studies that assess the main features of sarcoma patients managed in the Oncology Service of the University Assistance Complex of Salamanca. To this end, a descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective study of the sarcoma patients managed in this service over the last 5 years was designed. It included a total of 123 patients. The gender distribution was all but equal in our sample. The average age was 63.9. An ample variety of histologic origins was identified, with the most frequent in STS patients being liposarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, and GIST, and the most frequent in BTS patients being osteosarcoma and Ewing´s sarcoma. Most non-GIST tumors arose in the extremities, whereas the most frequent anatomical sites of origin for GIST were the stomach and the small intestine. The results in our sample were consistent with those of the literature and bibliography. | en_EN |
