Léxico popular de Palencia

Abstract

En este trabajo se investigarán ciertos términos considerados propios de la provincia de Palencia por la gente que pudiera tener contacto con el habla de este dominio. De tal forma, se quería constatar el cambio lingüístico a nivel léxico que se ha producido en la provincia y ver si, efectivamente, estos vocablos aún forman parte del vernáculo de gente ligada a la provincia, e intentar hallar el origen de estos. Palencia es una circunscripción que, históricamente, ha tenido mucha relación con diversos de los pueblos que han habitado la Península desde la Edad Antigua. Además, está rodeada de provincias cuya cultura y modos de vida han sido muy significativos para la historia. Por ello, pareciera lógico pensar que estos hechos han influido de forma significativa en el modo de vida y las costumbres de Palencia y, por ende, en la lengua hablada allí. Nos encontramos, por tanto, en un territorio donde se debió de producir un gran contacto de lenguas, lo que nos lleva a opinar que muchos ejercieron cierta influencia sobre las demás, quizás actuando de sustrato. Veremos cómo el vocabulario tratado aquí no podrá adscribirse del todo a la zona de Palencia, sino que será propio, también, de las zonas colindantes. Así, demostraremos que las variedades románicas constituyen un continuum lingüístico sin unos límites precisos. También se verá que algunas de las palabras que forman parte del trabajo puede que no aparezcan en el DLE como regionalismos, o, incluso, puede que no aparezcan en absoluto. Así, debido a la extensión que se le exige a este trabajo, será imposible determinar del todo su carácter dialectal, pero se realizará una breve aproximación a estos términos para intentar hallar su origen y etimología, aunque pudiera parecer peregrina en ocasiones.

In this study, certain terms considered specific from the province of Palencia by individuals familiar with the language of this region will be investigated. The objective is to verify the lexical changes that have occurred within the province and determine whether these terms still constitute part of the vernacular of individuals connected to Palencia, while also attempting to trace their origins. Historically, Palencia has been a region with significant interactions with various peoples who have inhabited the Iberian Peninsula since ancient times. Moreover, it is surrounded by provinces whose cultures and ways of life have been profoundly influential throughout history. Consequently, it seems logical to presume that these factors have substantially impacted the lifestyle and customs of Palencia, and by extension, the language spoken there. Thus, we find ourselves in a territory where substantial linguistic contact must have occurred, leading us to hypothesize that many languages exerted some influence over others, possibly acting as a substratum. We will demonstrate that the vocabulary examined here cannot be exclusively attributed to the Palencia region but is also characteristic of the surrounding areas. This will illustrate that the Romance language varieties form a linguistic continuum without precise boundaries. Furthermore, it will become apparent that some of the terms analyzed in this study may not appear in the DLE (Dictionary of the Spanish Language) as regionalisms or may not be documented at all. Given the extensive scope required for this research, it will be impossible to fully ascertain their dialectal nature. However, a brief examination of these terms will be conducted to attempt to determine their origins and etymology, even if such efforts might occasionally seem speculative.
