dc.description.abstract[EN]ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to examine the benefits of a multicomponent person-centered support initiative for older people living in nursing homes. Participants were 20 older people from Navarra (Spain) that were randomly assigned to person-centered support sessions or regular support sessions. Bi-weekly sessions were held over a period of 12 weeks. Participants in the person-centered group displayed significant improvements in loneliness and depression and a greater degree of health-related quality of life. Incorporating the person- centered approach in support initiatives could improve the psychosocial health of older people living in nursing homes. KEY POINTS Loneliness: Loneliness is a subjective emotional experience resulting from a perceived discrepancy between an individual’s desired and actual social relationships. It encompasses feelings of isolation, disconnection, and a lack of companionship (Hawkley & Cacioppo, 2010b). Person-Centered Care: Person-centered care is an approach that prioritizes the individual’s preferences, values, and unique needs in healthcare delivery. It emphasizes collaborative decision- making, respect for individual autonomy, and tailoring of care to promote holistic well-being (McCormack & McCance, 2017; Mead & Bower, 2000). Holistic Stimulation Initiatives: Holistic stimulation initiatives encompass a range of activities designed to promote cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being among older adults. These initiatives aim to provide comprehensive engagement opportunities that address multiple dimensions of wellness. Retrospective Life History and Biography: Retrospective life history and biography involve capturing and exploring an individual’s personal narrative, experiences, and significant life events. This approach recognizes the importance of personal life stories in shaping one’s identity and well-being (Fang et al., 2023; Kenyon et al., 2004).es_ES
