¿Existieron la literatura y el arte socialistas? El debate entre vanguardia y realismo

Abstract

The October Revolution lived debates and crossed positions in parallel to an explosion of artistic avant-gardes that joined the socialist cause, which was not exempt of problems. This article reviews the theoretical and practical relationship of some of the most politically committed avant-gardes with the Soviet nation and also deals with the other great style popularized at that time by critics and politicians: the so-called socialist realism. Thus, based on a comparative analysis of the statements and actions of the main representatives of both currents, the text aims to contribute to the clarification of the fundamental question: is there such a thing as a «socialist artistic method»? And, if so, what does it consist of; or, on the contrary, is it a diffuse term indistinctly appropriated by both schools?

La Revolución de Octubre vivió debates y posicionamientos cruzados en paralelo a una explosión de vanguardias artísticas que se sumaron a la causa socialista, lo que no estuvo exento de problemas. Este artículo repasa la relación teórica y práctica de algunas de las vanguardias más políticamente comprometidas con la nación soviética y aborda también el otro gran estilo popularizado entonces por críticos y políticos de dicha órbita: el llamado realismo socialista. Así pues, a partir de un análisis comparado de las declaraciones y actuaciones de los principales representantes de sendas corrientes, el texto pretende contribuir al esclarecimiento de la cuestión fundamental: ¿existe un «método artístico socialista»? Y, en tal caso, ¿en qué consiste?; o, por el contrario, ¿se trata de un término difuso del que se apropiaron indistintamente ambas escuelas?
