Del Cid al Cid: la transformación del héroe entre la épica y el romancero

Abstract

En el presente trabajo se propone un análisis del reaprovechamiento de la figura del Cid desde la épica al romancero a partir de tres perspectivas: el vasallaje, las batallas y los retos, y la materia amorosa. El objetivo es ver que el cambio en los temas y motivos no se puede explicar por razones únicamente literarias, sino que es necesario también atender a la coyuntura sociohistórica de cada momento. De esa forma, la épica, profundamente arraigada en sus circunstancias y por tanto con una necesidad de veracidad, se va vaciando de contenido y contaminándose de otras materias progresivamente para dar lugar al romancero, una joya del ayer que se evoca desde un pasado lejano, legendario. En los Siglos de Oro se entremezclan ambas perspectivas, intentando recuperarlo desde la historia pero contagiado por los motivos poéticos del momento.

In this paper we propose an analysis of the difference in the use of the Cid based on three themes: feudalist relationships, battles and challenges, and love. The objective is to see that this change in themes and motives isn´t posible to explain only on literary terms, but rather on the socio-politic scene in each moment. This way, epic, profoundly bounded to its circumstances has to be somehow plausible, and progressively it gets emptier and contaminated by other forms until it becomes the romancero, a jewel from the once upon a time that is evocated from a distant past, legenday. In the golden centuries the two perspectives get mixed up, between bringing back history but at the same time tainted by the poetic currents of that moment.
