This paper aims to reconsider the text of Servius Aen. 6, 43 and, more in particular, the attribution of the reported etymology of ostium and aditum to Vitruvius. To better assess the problem, other etymological explanations of different architectural terms in Servius! commentary are examined in search for a common pattern. The consistent use of Varronian materials for this lexical field suggests that the etymology of ostium and aditum was drawn from the same source.es_ES
