Translation Against Epistemicide Through Contemporary Art.

Abstract

[ENG] This article focuses on the translation of non-Western knowledges. It aims to describe different types of translation that anthropologists have used to approach forms of knowledge constructed not only through the intellect but also through more than the five senses. By incorporating the ideas of so-called “sensory anthropology,” together with other approaches to translation in anthropology—such as “shamanic translation,” “translation as equivocation,” “intercultural translation,” and “total translation”—the article opens the door to a new way of addressing and engaging with the translation of this knowledge. It also demonstrates how certain contemporary translation theories can be combined with the sensory turn in anthropology in order to translate forms of knowledge that, since time immemorial, have not been transmitted through the conventional channels of the Western world.

[SPA] Este artículo se centra en la traducción de saberes no occidentales. Su objetivo es describir distintos tipos de traducción que los antropólogos han utilizado para aproximarse a una forma de conocimiento que se construye no solo con el intelecto, sino también con más de cinco sentidos. Al incorporar las ideas de la llamada “antropología sensorial”, que junto con otros tipos de traducción en antropología —como la “traducción chamánica”, la “traducción como equivocación”, la “traducción intercultural” y la “traducción total”— abre la puerta a una nueva manera de abordar y tratar la traducción de estos saberes. El artículo también muestra cómo algunas teorías contemporáneas de la traducción pueden combinarse con el giro sensorial en antropología para poder traducir un tipo de conocimiento que, desde tiempos inmemoriales, no se ha transmitido a través de los canales convencionales del mundo occidental.
