La medicina, sus textos y sus lenguas en la España de Cervantes

Abstract

As a tribute to Don Quixote on its four hundreadt anniversary, thid work deals with the practice of medicine in Spain during the lifetine of the novel's author, Miguel de Cervantes: the second half of the sixteenth century and the first few decades of the seventeenth. After summarily describing the various types of "healers" that existed then and how they went about their business, we examine the medical texts produced during the period, which were written for those healers, with special emphasis on the language used in them and on the reasons behind certain linguistic preferences.
