Utopía estoica o razón socrática: la virtus ciceroniana en las Paradoxa Stoicorum

Abstract

The Paradoxa Stoicorum (The paradoxes of the stoics), show the reflections of Cicero with regards to a series of stoic principles, with a high Socratic influence. The Ciceronian virtus (virtue), moves away from the stoic utopia of the need to achieve the supreme virtue, in order to reach the supreme good, putting forward the idea, that perfect wisdom is inaccessible to humans, so that they can only try to approach it through reason, using opinions, speculations and understanding. A rejection of stoic dogmatism, that Cicero manages with incredible skill in his works.

Las Paradoxa Stoicorum (Las paradojas de los estoicos), muestran las reflexiones de Cicerón sobre una serie de principios estoicos, con gran influencia socrática. La virtus ciceroniana, se aparta de la utopía estoica de la necesidad de alcanzar la virtud suprema para poder alcanzar el bien supremo, alegando que la sabiduría perfecta es inaccesible a los hombres, quienes solo pueden intentar acercarse a ella, a través de la razón, usando la opinión, la conjetura y la comprensión. Un rechazo al dogmatismo estoico, que Cicerón maneja con gran maestría en sus escritos.
