¿Qué puede aportar el clima a la historia? El ejemplo del periodo cálido medieval en el Magreb almorávide y almohade

Abstract

In the first half of the eleventh century born in Western Africa the Almoravid phenomenon, which occupied the entire Maghreb al-Aqsa, and appeared in al-Andalus. In a hundred years he was replaced by the Almohad, the other great political-religious movement, which was extinguished during the 13 century. Both political processes have been studied as phenomena of religious renewal component, which spurred its expansion. It is remarkable that the Almoravid pre-expansion time coincide with the greatest influence of Medieval Warm Period in the Sahel, while the Almohad disintegration is placed on dates coinciding with the climate crisis in 13th century. This paper analyzes the links that this weather event may have with these two historical processes.

En la primera mitad del siglo xi surgió en África Occidental el fenómeno almorávide, que ocupó todo el Magreb al-Aqṣà, e intervino en al-Andalus. En cien años fue sustituido por el almohade, el otro gran movimiento político-religioso, que fue extinguiéndose durante el siglo xiii. Ambos procesos políticos han sido estudiados como fenómenos religiosos que espolearon su expansión. Resulta remarcable que los momentos previos a la expansión almorávide coincidan con la etapa de mayor influencia del Periodo Cálido Medieval en el Sahel, mientras que la desintegración almohade se sitúe en fechas coincidentes con la crisis climática del siglo xiii. Este trabajo analiza los vínculos que tal evento climático pudiera tener con aquellos dos procesos históricos.
