La literatura infantil y su traducción: Análisis de las traducciones españolas de tres obras del Dr. Seuss

Abstract

[EN] The aim of this paper is to analyze the translation of linguistic aspects (rhymes, invented words, proper nouns) and to examine to which extent do the non-linguistic aspects (pictures, illustrations) are a contributing factor in the translation process of three children’s books. The three works are the following: The Cat in the Hat; One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish y Green Eggs and Ham, written by Theodor Seuss, better known as Dr. Seuss. First, the paper will offer some theoretical considerations about children's literature, examining its characteristics, functions and production process. Children's literature is often a multimodal discourse because it combines text and illustrations. In this work the particularities of this multimodal discourse will be analyzed. Second, the paper will focus on the translation of children's literature and will weigh the following questions: which considerations should a translator take into account when translating for children? What translation strategies have been used in the corpus of Dr. Seuss in Spanish? Through this study will provide more data, remarks and relevant analysis to the study of the translation of children's literature. [SP] El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar las traducciones de aspectos lingüísticos (rimas, palabras inventadas, nombres propios) y su condicionamiento por los elementos no lingüísticos (imágenes, ilustraciones) presentes en tres obras de literatura infantil. Dichas obras son The Cat in the Hat; One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish y Green Eggs and Ham, escritas por Theodor Seuss, más conocido como Dr. Seuss. En primer lugar, ofreceremos unas consideraciones generales sobre la literatura infantil, examinando sus características, funciones y proceso de producción. La literatura infantil suele ser un medio multimodal, una modalidad textual que tiene texto y también imágenes, con lo cual se examinarán las especificidades de este medio mixto. En segundo lugar, nos centraremos en la traducción de literatura infantil y nos plantearemos las siguientes preguntas, la primera teórica y la segunda práctica: ¿Qué consideraciones ha de tener en cuenta un traductor cuando traduce para niños? ¿Qué prácticas traductoras se han utilizado en el caso del corpus de obras del Dr. Seuss en lengua española? Por lo tanto, mediante este trabajo queremos aportar más datos, observaciones y análisis pertinentes al estudio de la traducción de la literatura infantil.
