Kripke contra la teoría de la identidad: una defensa de la ruta esencialista hacia lo necesario a posteriori

Abstract

[ES] En el presente trabajo se tratan los argumentos de Kripke contra la teoría de la identidad mente-cerebro en su versión de tipos. Primero, se presenta una división y caracterización general de las distintas versiones de la teoría de la identidad y se introducen una serie de nociones generales de la semántica de Kripke. A continuación, se explican sus argumentos contra la teoría de la identidad, mostrando su dependencia de la caracterización de la necesidad a posteriori. Se presentan las dos rutas hacia lo necesario a posteriori ofrecidas por Soames, mostrando y defendiendo las ventajas de la ruta esencialista frente a la ruta secundaria. Finalmente, se defiende cómo a la luz de dichas ventajas la ruta esencialista es la mejor vía para explicar la necesidad a posteriori y, también, cómo la aplicación de esta ruta invalidaría los argumentos de Kripke contra la teoría de la identidad.

[EN] In this paper, I examine several arguments drawn by Kripke against the so called mind-brain identity theory in its type version. First, I present a classification and general characterization of the different versions of the identity theory, and also, I introduce several general notions of Kripke’s semantics. After that, I analyse Kripke’s arguments against the identity theory and show that they are dependent on the notion of the necessary aposteriori. Later, I present the two routes towards the necessary aposteriori signaled by Soames and I defend, in agreement with him, that the essentialist route is more advantageous than the other, secondary route. Finally, based on the latter consideration, I conclude that the essentialist route is the best way to reach the necessary aposteriori. Also, I show that Kripke’s arguments against the identity theory would be blocked once we adopt and apply the essentialist route to the necessary aposteriori.
