Traducir el verso maravilloso de Tolkien. Análisis de Beren and Lúthien, una obra reescrita

Abstract

[ES] La poesía de J.R.R. Tolkien se constituye como todo un desafío traductológico, pues aúna dificultades diversas, derivadas de la vaguedad del género fantástico, la complejidad del proceso creativo del autor y los textos escritos en verso. Este trabajo analiza el volumen Beren and Lúthien (2017), editado por Christopher Tolkien, desde distintas perspectivas. En primer lugar, investiga la obra a la luz de las teorías polisistémicas y del concepto de reescritura para determinar su posición actual en el sistema literario y aclarar hasta qué punto la labor del editor influyó en su publicación. Posteriormente, se aproxima al texto meta como producto en el nivel macrotextual, prestando especial atención a los paratextos. Asimismo, se identifican los retos que plantea este tipo de literatura a partir del análisis de un fragmento de la traducción de Ramón Ibero. Por último, se reflexiona sobre las estrategias que emplea el traductor para valorar su efectividad desde el punto de vista literario. [EN] J.R.R. Tolkien’s poetry becomes a true translation challenge, since it brings together difficulties posed by the vagueness of fantasy literature, the complex creative process of this work in particular and its composition in verse. This paper analyses the book Beren and Lúthien (2017), edited by Christopher Tolkien, using different approaches. Firstly, this project examines the original text from the point of view of polysystem theories and the concept of rewriting to determine its current position in the literary system and to what extent the editor’s intervention influenced this publication. Then, the target text is analysed as a product at the macrotextual level, paying special attention to paratexts. The final section investigates the challenges posed by this type of literature, by analysing Ramón Ibero’s translation of an extract, and adds some reflections on the strategies the translator uses to evaluate their effectiveness regarding literary value.
