The CLIL approach and its implementations in ELT based on a case study in northern Spain

Abstract

La indudable importancia del inglés se ve cada vez más reflejada en el mundo, dando así lugar a nuevas técnicas para enseñarlo. Una de las más populares ha sido CLIL (AICLE). En este trabajo primero se analizarán las razones por las que el inglés se ha convertido en la lengua internacional de comunicación y sus implicaciones en la enseñanza del inglés. También se explicarán los puntos más importantes de CLIL (AICLE), haciendo referencia a su uso en las escuelas bilingües y por último se analizará la efectividad de el mimo en un caso particular en dos colegios, uno bilingüe y otro no bilingüe.

The undeniable importance of English is present throughout the world, giving rise to new techniques and approaches when teaching the English language. One of the most popular approaches has been CLIL. This paper will firstly analyze why English became the international language of communication including its implications for English language teaching. Secondly, this paper will highlight the most important points of CLIL with reference to its use in bilingual schools. Finally, the effectiveness of CLIL will be analyzed involving a case study of two different schools, bilingual and nonbilingual
